If God Be For Us, Who Can Be Against Us?

It is impossible for any human words to express the full measure of this delightful statement, “God is for me.” He was for us before the universe was made. He was for us when He gave His well beloved son for us. He was for us when He struck the only Begotten and laid the full weight of His wrath on Him; He was for us, though “against Him”. He was for us when we were ruined in the Fall; He loved us despite all.

He was for us when we were rebels, defying Him with clenched fist. He was for us when He led us to humbly seek His face. He has been with us in many struggles; we have been summoned to encounter a multitude of dangers, and we have been assailed by internal and external temptations. How could we have remained unharmed to this hour if He was not for us? He is for us with the infinity of His being, the omnipotence of His love, and the infallibility of his wisdom.

He is for us, arrayed in all His divine attributes. He is eternally and unchangeably for us. He will be for us when the blue skies are rolled up like a worn out garment. He will be for us throughout eternity. Because He is for us, our prayers will always secure His help. “When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back.” This is not a uncertain hope, but a well grounded assurance: “this I know.” I will direct my prayer to God and will look to Him for the answer, assured that it will come and my enemies will be defeated, for God is foe me.”  O believer, how happy you are with the King of Kings on your side! How safe you are with such a Protector! How sure is your cause, when it is pleaded by such a Advocate! “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
